In his article on CNN, Gary Huggins wrote about what he sees as a flaw in American education. He sees summer break antiquated and worthy of review since kids lose out on learning during that time away from school. He says,
"Our attitude toward summer tells young people that summer is for fun and not learning. Therefore, what we’re really telling them is that learning is the opposite of fun.
What a sad message, and what an inaccurate conclusion. Because learning is the most fun you can have."
How cool is this idea… kids so busy having fun, they are not aware that they are also learning at the same time!
That is what happens at Oasis Summer Day Camp. We love having fun. And it’s not just the kids. Day camp leaders at Oasis are trained educators who believed Henry Ford when he said: Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.
Learning at Oasis Summer Day Camp happens through the many activities and field trips and the natural interactions between kids who join in the fun from all sorts of places and backgrounds. Fun learning also happens when kids take part in our “Tree Fort Challenge”.
When you are relaxed and having fun, there are no barriers to your learning.
