Summer Camp Can Help Avoid the Summer Slump

Every teacher and most parents are aware of the summer slump: students lose academic ground during the summer. Summer camp is one way to fight the summer slump.

At Oasis Summer Day Camp, we combine fun and learning for campers ages 4-12 and junior counselors ages 13-17. Youngsters in Cook and Lake counties can benefit from our day camp, where we encourage them to make friends, try new activities, be creative, appreciate nature, and most importantly, have fun.

The Tree Fort Challenge is an important part of Oasis Summer Day Camp. It's a reading game, completely optional, where youngsters use a game board to keep track of their summer reading. They can earn prizes when they reach milestones on their game board. Since many public libraries and bookstores also have summer reading programs, your children can earn two or three prizes for reading the same book. It's a relaxed program, where the children can read at their own pace, and can read whatever interests them.

We also include field trips in our program to the Museum of Science and Industry, Lake County Fair, Wheeling Aquatic Center, Lincoln Park Zoo, Mystic Waters, Six Flags Great AmericaWrigley Field, and many other places. We offer a wide variety of activities: not only the traditional arts and crafts found at any summer camp, but also fencing, cooking classes, science experiments, soccer, swimming, even bungee jumping. These experiences help your children build vocabulary and develop self-confidence. Because we're a day camp, you can discuss each day's activities with your children every evening at the dinner table. This also helps build vocabulary.
