We are reminded every time a new iPod or Facebook upgrade hits the market or a new smart phone is introduced to the public that technology is providing the power to transform our environment. The popularity of video game systems like Nintendo’s Wii, Sony’s Playstation I, II, and III and the many portable electronic handhelds have brought about social change and how people interact with each other. The first thing that comes to mind when talking about play are electronics and toys, kids staying indoors with their stuff.
We want to thank all of our 2010 Oasis Summer Day Camp families for a spectacular year. It was our dream to create a safe summertime community for children to be active, have fun, and grow. We remember the summer months of our childhood fondly and have realized that once they are gone there is no feeling that is quite the same. We feel that as a child, summertime is a rare opportunity in life when everyday is a new adventure that is better than the last. Those of us with camp experience will tell you that camp isn't only about sunshine and recreational fun. Camp is a unique venue to teach kids responsibility, cooperation, and how to exist in a mini society. Several studies show that over the summer, students can lose up to the equivalent of 2.6 months of what they've learned during the school year.
